Satan’s Basic Strategies Against You

Compromise has robbed the church of its power. When Moses went to Pharaoh to demand freedom for Israel, Pharaoh responded with a strategy to increase Israel’s yoke of bondage. This is a parallel of the strategy satan still uses to keep people under his control and away from the cross. As soon as Moses proclaimed liberty to Israel by the word of the Lord, Pharaoh countered by giving his men instructions to work the Israelite slaves even harder: “Let the labor be heavier on the men, and let them work at it that they may pay no attention to false words”. (Exodus 5:9)

Pharaoh’s strategy was to make the burdens on God’s people heavier so they would think God’s promises were “false words”. Satan does the same to us. Just before we are about to be delivered by the power of God, he heaps extra burdens on us to make us think God’s Words are false.  This strategy against Israel began to work, causing them to doubt and become discouraged. To bring discouragement is satan’s first priority. If we understand the enemy’s schemes, we can combat them just as Moses did.

If God gives you a promise, satan will immediately try to make you think it is not from God by attacking you in that very area. Satan’s first strategy is to make us think that God’s Word is false. We must learn to expect this attack when we receive a promise from God, not allowing it to discourage us or cause us to deviate from our course. Because Moses remained steadfast, Satan’s first tactic did not work. But Satan had additional strategies.

His next ploy was to duplicate the miracles of God, attempting to show that God’s power was no greater than his. That would mean there really was not anything special about what God was promising, for satan could do all the same things. This tactic was meant to bring disorientation.

When Moses again held his course, Pharaoh gave in a little more – but only in order to devise an even more cunning strategy. He told them, “Go, sacrifice to your God within the land” (Exodus 8:25).  When Satan sees that we are determined to serve the Lord, he will then try to make us think we can serve God in his domain. He wants us to think we can still live our lives according to the ways of the world, as long as we go to church occasionally, read the Bibles dutifully, etc. Moses was not deceived by this dangerous fallacy, and neither should we be.

May Lord bless you,

Your friend, Rev. Edilton da Silva.
